One of the most important things we do at Fresh Start Church is to come together every week and experience the power of God's presence. People from different backgrounds and generations join in worship as a family, and from our corporate worship, we go into our homes, schools, and workplaces as carriers of the joy, hope, and life found in the presence of God.

That's what worship is all about. And that's why the heartbeat of the Fresh Start Church music ministry is to help people experience the presence of God and develop a life of worship. Every facet of our ministry is designed with that end in mind. God is near and He wants to engage you in a life-long conversation called worship.

Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done in His creation. At FreshStart Church, as we worship corporately, we desire to stand in awe of His Holiness, be changed by His Grace, and be touched by His Nearness.

Why do we worship?

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth." John 4:23,24, NIV.

Why do we clap our hands?

"Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy."Psalms 47:1, NIV.

Why do we stand to sing?

"Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice." 2 Chronicles 20:19, NIV.

"After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no-one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: 'Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.' " Revelation 7:9,10, NIV.

Why do we raise our hands?

"I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands." Psalms 63:4, NIV.

"Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD." Psalms 134:2, NIV.

"I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing." 1 Timothy 2:8, NIV.

Why do we have audible praise unto God?

"Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name." Psalms 103:1, NIV.

"After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: 'Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,...' Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: 'Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.' " Revelation 19:1,6, NIV.

Why does the whole church pray at once for specific needs?

"When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them." Acts 4:24, NIV.

Why do we sing choruses?

"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, ..." Ephesians 5:18,19, NIV.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Colossians 3:16, NIV.

Why are musical instruments a part of the worship service?

"Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals." Psalms 150:3-5, NIV.
